ADDA Installs New Officers & Hands Out Awards

The ADDA Christmas Party was a huge success! Many thanks to all of the vendors who donated items for our auctions. And thank you to all who came out to enjoy some fellowship and support the ADDA! During the meeting the new ADDA Officers were installed and the 2018 Award Winners were recognized.

New Parade Route!
Tuesday, November 13, 2018
We are pleased to announce a new route for this year's Christmas Parade! The Parade will begin at W 44th and Park Avenue and head towards Lake Avenue (the corner with Walgreen's and the BP), take a right onto Lake Avenue to Main Avenue, a right onto Main Avenue. The Parade will proceed up Main Avenue to W 48th, right onto W 48th to Park Avenue and end at the Carlisle parking lot. Announcements will be at Park Avenue Winery, BSide Music, and Dublin Down.
ADDA Hosts Membership Meeting

On Wednesday, November 7, 2018 the ADDA held it's Membership Meeting. Special guest Stephanie Seigel, Ashtabula County Visitors and Convention Bureau, shared updates on the ACVCB's many projects, as well as statistics showing the tremendous impact of tourism on our local economy. In other business, the ADDA elected it's new officers for 2019: Myke Anderson, President; Jane Haines, Vice-President; Carmen Kuula, Secretary; Chad Giangola, Treasurer; and Josephine Misener, Past President.

The nip of Fall has been in the air and the ADDA has started to make plans for the upcoming Holiday events! The fun includes the annual Christmas Parade, the Christmas Tree Decorating, and the Window Decorating events, along with all the activities around the Downtown area! This year's them is "It's a Marshmallow World".
Ashtabula Police Win Chili Cook-Off!
September 9, 2018
Three great groups vied for the title of "Best Chili" in the First Friday Harvest Chili Cook-Off on September 7th. The entries offered by the Ashtabula Fire Department, the Ashtabula Police Department and LEADERship Ashtabula County were all delicious, but the winning chili was made by the Ashtabula Police Department! Thanks to all who helped support this event!

Planning Underway for Art in the Alley!

The ADDA has issued a "Call for Artists" for the third annual “Art in the Alley”, a mixed media event for Artists who create Photography, Graphite, Ink, Watercolor, Acrylics, Oils, Ceramics, Fiber Art, Three-Dimensional Work and more. The event was created to showcase the many talented local artists we have in our area, and is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Alley next to, and Parking Lot behind Dublin Down – 4616 Main Avenue.
There are many levels of sponsorship available. We have Easel Sponsorships available for individuals, businesses and organizations that are a great way to support Ashtabula and our local artists!

First Friday Volunteers Needed!

The theme for the July First Friday is "Youth Art, Science, and Chalk Art for All Ages". We plan to use the World Science Festival- City of Science Activity Guide during this event. We need 3 or 4 people to facilitate science experiments that engage the public (of all ages). We also need volunteers for the following tasks:
Setup needed noon-1pm Teardown needed 8pm-9pm
Transfering tables and chairs from Casa to different spots on Main Ave and both Veterans and Cornelius Parks.

Fountain Restoration Continues At Cornelius Park
June 12, 2018
Larry Fargo and Randy Woods prepped the limestone base around the perimeter of the fountain for installation of brick patio blocks on Monday, continuing work to restore the fountain (originally gifted to the City by Oliver C. Topky about 50 years ago). Over the past 3 years, volunteers and donors have been dedicated to this effort, and this summer the project should be complete and the fountain will once again be the beautiful centerpiece of Cornelius Park.

The Main Avenue Marketplace is part Farmers’ Market and more! It will offer healthy, locally grown/produced food from area farms and handmade products from local artists/artisans. The Marketplace will be held every Wednesday from 11:00 am- 3:00 pm on the corner of Main Avenue and West 48th Street (by the Ashtabula Municipal Building/Key Bank). Currently seeking vendors, just complete the Application Packet . As a new market we are offering spaces for $5.00 per week (just to help cover costs of marketing and operation). SIGN UP TODAY!

Economic Restructuring Committee Update
April 8, 2018
Over the years the Economic Restructuring Committee has worked hard to move Downtown Ashtabula forward. Thanks to their efforts many positive changes have taken place. The committee now has new members who will pick up and continue that work. Larry Fargo is taking the lead as the new chairperson and is joined by the following members: Josephine Misener, Lisa Richmond, Rick Coblitz, and Doug Spencer.
Jo has knowledge of the City’s administration, policies, and procedures. She has contact with building owners and knows a lot about the buildings.
As a business owner, Lisa has a stake in Main Avenue. She will be working to assist with the public relations tasks of the committee.
Rick brings wisdom and continuity to the group as he has been actively involved with ADDA, and Main Avenue projects for many years.
Doug is a sound businessman. His knowledge of buildings and their repair will be very instrumental as the ERC moves forward.
Congratulations and thank you to the new members who will be putting their talents to work "getting things done" for Downtown Ashtabula!

Members, merchants and the public were updated on accomplishments of 2017 and plans for 2018. There is a lot going on Downtown and the group has adopted the new tagline... "Meet Me On Main" as an invitation to all!

Once again Downtown Ashtabula ushered in the Holiday Season in grand style! We had a fabulous Enchanted Christmas celebration and a great crowd enjoyed the annual Christmas Parade! 9/11...A Day of Remembrance
September 11, 2016
Join with others in remembrance of September 11 at the Patriot Day Freedom Walk. Opening Ceremony begins at 5 pm at Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd, Ashtabula. The one mile Freedom Walk then proceeds to the Ashtabula Fire Station, then Veterans Park, and back to the funeral home for refreshments. At each location clergy, city police and the American Legion will offer prayers, words or military honors. If you wish to observe the walk, you can watch from the east side of Lt. Cpl. Kevin Cornelius Park between 5:30-6:00 pm.

The Art in the Alley event was a huge success! Many people stopped downtown to see the art and visit with the artists! The weather was perfect, wonderful food was available at Dublin Down Irish Pub & Eatery, as well as at the new JT's Bagels Shop, and terrific tunes were provided by Smooth Groove! The first public art installation- 3 Whirligigs- were unveiled on Main Avenue. Great work and many thanks to the Committee for bringing this first-of-its-kind event to our area. Also, thank you so much to the local artists who showcased their artworks- we have so many talented individuals in our midst!

Library Closed for Renovations

The Ashtabula City Council voted to approve the ADDA Master Plan for Downtown Ashtabula at their meeting on Monday, March 21st. "The ADDA Master Plan builds on previous plans and studies; it's a working plan. It provides a vision of what a revitalized downtown Ashtabula could be..." Jane Haines ADDA President said.

At the March 2nd Membership Meeting, the ADDA presented their Downtown Ashtabula Master Plan and received public approval. It will now be presented to the City of Ashtabula for consideration. It is a great document and will help guide the development efforts of the Downtown area for the future.

Attending these important planning meetings will allow you to have a voice in the downtown 2019 events, PR campaigns and, promotions.

Join us at Framed on Main Gallery 4533 Main Avenue, Ashtabula Downtown for the “ Curious Case of Chris Raab” local artist. Take It to the Curb! Clean-Up
ADDA is looking for volunteers to help pick up trash and beautify a pair of city parks as part of the Take it ti the Curb Clean-Up event. Volunteers should meet at 9:00 am in front of Ashtabula City Municipal Court and look for Judge Laura DiGiacomo who will lead the effort. Volunteers should bring brooms, rakes and gloves. Blue Lives Matter March
InVESTing in K-9 Officers is assisting to organize this event. The march will begin at the Ashtabula City Police Department and end at Ashtabula City Hall. It is about 5K; light refreshements will be served, there will be a blue balloon release in memory of fallen officers, and participants are asked to donate a non-perishable item for a local food pantry. Come out and show your community support for our law enforcement officers.

Ashtabula Library Grand Opening
The library dedication ceremonies will begin at 1:00pm on the West 44th Street lawn. Ashtabula High School grad, Ashtabula Library patron, author, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Connie Schultz will speak beginning at 1:35pm.

Outdoor Art Show Coming to Downtown Ashtabula!
Art in the Alley will take place in the alleys surrounding Dublin Down restaurant on Ashtabula’s Main Avenue and is free to the public. Close to 20 artists are already on board, including several younger artists. In addition to the art, there will be live music, a 50/50 Raffle drawing, and a Chinese Auction for people to bid on artwork. A video of the art show will be playing after dark on the outdoor big screen at Dublin Down. The ADDA will also be selling little plastic magnetic easels, $3 each or 2 for $5. Purchasers can glue pictures of loved ones, pets, or whatever they choose onto the easels. Support our local artists and enjoy this great new event!

Historic Steam Train Visit
Nickel Plate Road 765, a 1944 steam locomotive, will take passengers on round-trip excursions July 25-26 from Youngstown to Ashtabula as part of Norfolk Southern’s 21st Century Steam Program. The passengers will be stepping off the train in Downtown Ashtabula and will be eating a meal provided by Casa Capelli in the restaurant and South Park. St. Peter's Church will have an exhibit of historic artifacts and will be highlighting the music of Phillip Bliss and the artistry of Merv Clary.
